Home Stretch

We passed through Ohio on our way east, and stayed two days.  Rhonda and I went hiking in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, between Cleveland and Akron, and came upon this green slime pond...the remnants of an old canal that enabled towboats to travel from Cleveland to Akron in the 19th century.  Look closely and you'll see a turtle sunning on a log.  There were frogs, turtles, and birds galore here.  A hike/bike path runs along the Cuyahoga River most of the way from Cleveland to Akron...a very pretty corridor.

This slime/shade picture is a little  impressionistic.

Here's the towpath.

Now we're rolling east on Interstate 80 in Northern Pennsylvania.  This is one of the most unsettled areas in the Eastern US...for two hundred miles in PA there are no towns with as many as ten thousand people, and most of the route is wilderness, or close to it.

Sunrise in Scranton, PA last Sunday...taken from my room at the Clarion.

Now we've pushed into Connecticut.  They treat dogs well in the Keystone State...no mere "pet area" for Sable and Samantha...they get a Canine Rest Area!  The hounds are a bit camera shy in this pic.

Last leg of the trip...almost home!

Crossing the Pell Bridge into Newport on a fine sunny Sunday.

We made it!  3460 miles.  Now we're chillin' in Newport at one of Rhonda's favorite seafood restaurants, with her mom Rosalie.  Good Tucker at the Black Pearl!  For some reason, the last pic I intended to load for this post only shows up as Cro at the bottom.  But if you click on Cro, you'll see the picture.  The only explanation I have for this one is that some people are more talented than others.
