The US from the road

I'm in a rare position on my current trip...I'm a passenger as my friend Rhonda moves herself and her dogs Sable and Samantha from California to her native Rhode Island.  As a result, I'm able to take pictures from a moving vehicle...with a sunroof to boot...much better than when I'm driving alone.  We drove through Las Vegas last weekend...passing New York New York hotel and casino, complete with a model of some of the iconic buildings that I visited in NYC just last month.

Cruising up the Virgin River canyon NE of Vegas...river on the right side.

We're staying at La Quintas all the way across because all their properties take pets.  Here's Sable holding court on Rhonda's bed.  I believe Sable is auditioning to be La Quinta's spokesdog in this shot.

We're currently cruising I-70...from its origin in Utah clear to Columbus Ohio.  Here, in central Utah, the freeway passes through a picturesque canyon.

We're off I-70 here, near Moab, passing Castle Rock.  Absolutely gorgeous country hereabouts.

Rolling through a canyon on the Colorado River on Utah highway 128.  There are some very fine resorts on this road, along with river rafting, biking, hiking, etc.

Samantha and Sable (yawning) during a rest stop in Fruita, CO.

Neat mountain just east of Grand Junction.  Erosion to da max.

Here we're about to pass through the Eisenhower Tunnel, on the Continental Divide in Colorado.  I've driven this route countless times, mainly during my time in Denver.  It can be snowing like mad on one side of the tunnel, and dry, maybe even sunny, on the other side.  I remember when I was on a ski trip, driving through the tunnel...about 2 miles long..gave me a 2 minute plus break from snow and ice where I could relax, catch a quick recharge, and prepare for the bad weather at the other end.  On this day in June, no problem.

Headin' for Denver on I 70 near Evergreen...the Great Plains spread out in the distance.

Downtown Denver passes in a blur...well, maybe a slow blur...as we cruise through at a leisurely pace during rush hour.

And onto the Endless Prairie, crossing Kansas.

It is of course windy in Kansas...nothing to stop the wind blowing from Mexico to Canada or vice versa.  We cruised by these wind turbines near Salina.
