Puyallup Fair

I stayed with old friends in Puyallup for three days...Dick was my college roommate way back in 1970 and he and his wife Wilma have been good buds for a looooong time. My visit fortunately coincided with the Western Washington State Fair, one of the largest in the nation, right in Puyallup. Yesterday we did the fair. It's very entertaining and diverse. You can get your fill of critters, comfort food, music, and rides...and then some! Here's a Holstein cow...I like cows because they're really rather sloatlike...tranquil and slow moving.

I also enjoy the pigs, who are definitely sloatlike, in addition to being congenial and intelligent. Mama sow here gave birth to eight piglets and all appear to be doing fine. Another sow in an adjacent pen is due on September 12...good luck to her.

Grazing at the Puyallup fair is first rate! Every type of comfort food known to humanity is available, from corn dogs to burgers to onion rings to funnel cakes to candied apples, and on and on. You can also choose from microbrews and do wine tasting in addition to non-adult beverages.

The fair has great entertainment! I was lucky enough to be there on the day the Black Crowes headlined. They put on a great show with fine rock n'roll and did a lot of superb jamming. It was a beautiful, balmy night...unseasonably warm. A fine scene!

Late at night, the midway is still humming with all the usual carnival games and rides. This pic was taken without a flash or tripod, but it really is a blur of activity out there.
